Father's + Mother's Rights
Both Parents Have Rights
Fathers have rights. Mothers have rights. At Johnston, Root & Leibenguth, P.C., in Portland, Oregon, we do not favor one gender over another. Each parent has an equal amount of rights. Provided neither parent is an abusive influence, both should play an equal role in the lives of their children.
Protecting the rights of fathers and mothers is paramount in our practice of family law. As parents ourselves, we can relate. For help, contact us at (503) 946-5373.
On the Cutting Edge of Fathers' Rights Law
As father’s rights gained prominence, attorney Ronald Johnston, the founder of our firm, was on the cutting edge. He represented many fathers and father’s rights organizations when it was not popular to do so. He helped write legislation that defines joint custody rights in Oregon. Mr. Johnston gained prominence by litigating many father’s rights cases.
Recognizing the Rights of Both Parents
The attorneys at Johnston, Root & Leibenguth, P.C., have life experiences of their own. Some of us have experienced divorce in our own lives. We have all gone through the day-to-day rigors of raising children, including step-children. We recognize that fathers and mothers have rights that need aggressive protection.
Realizing the Impact of Divorce on Your Children
When children are involved, a divorce should take a peaceful approach. Destroying your spouse in a public forum will not only build ill will with your spouse, it will also affect your children. If both sides can't agree on custody or support, they should at least agree to proceed with the divorce in a business-like manner.
Mediation may help bring peace to the arguments. Mediation may be a way to ensure that your children will emotionally survive the divorce.
