Father's + Mother's Rights
Both Parents Have Rights
Fathers have rights. Mothers have rights. At Johnston, Root & Leibenguth, P.C., in Portland, Oregon, we do not favor one gender over another. Each parent has an equal amount of rights. Provided neither parent is an abusive influence, both should play an equal role in the lives of their children.
Protecting the rights of fathers and mothers is paramount in our practice of family law. As parents ourselves, we can relate. For help, contact us at (503) 946-5373.
On the Cutting Edge of Fathers' Rights Law
As fathers' rights gained prominence, attorney Ronald Johnston, the founder of our firm, was on the cutting edge. He helped write legislation to level the playing field. Back then, statutes favored mothers and presumed that they would receive custody. Mr. Johnston gained prominence by playing a vital role in equalizing laws that were anything but gender neutral.
Recognizing the Rights of Both Parents
The attorneys at Johnston, Root & Leibenguth, P.C., have life experiences of their own. Some of us have experienced divorce in our own lives. We have all gone through the day-to-day rigors of raising children, including step-children. We recognize that fathers and mothers have rights that need aggressive protection.
Realizing the Impact of Divorce on Your Children
When children are involved, a divorce should take a peaceful approach. Destroying your spouse in a public forum will not only build ill will with your spouse, it will also affect your children. If both sides can't agree on custody or support, they should at least agree to proceed with the divorce in a business-like manner.
Mediation may help bring peace to the arguments. Mediation may be a way to ensure that your children will emotionally survive the divorce.
